IMPHAL, Feb 6: Reacting to the news item on the deadlock over resumption of Guite Road development work, the Border Roads Organisation under 99 APO has conveyed that the BRO is committed to fulfil aspirations of the people of Manipur.
However, with regard to the Guite Road, a BRO statement issued by Senior Administration Officer Rakesh Shukla clarified that as the NEC fund was allocated to the State Govern- ment for improvement of the said route the same (fund) cannot be transferred to BRO.
Observing that the news item gave an impression of the BRO intentionally refusing to take over the road, the statement suggested that as the NEC fund had been granted to the state Government, BRO's invol-vement in the road develop- ment work is out of the question at the present juncture.
Further pointing out that BRO will utilise its own fund (Army Budget) to do up the road which was also highlighted during the joint meeting, Rakesh informed of the BRO representative at the meeting highlighting BRO's willingness to take over the said road 'provided the existing liabilities (of NEC) are liquidated.
Further mentioning that the BRO's stand on the issue was appreciated by the Chief Minister during the course of the meeting, the statement also noted that correct procedure needs to be followed before work can be started by BRO on the road.(TSE)
