Joint ops against NE ultras in Myanmar likely: Army

DIMAPUR, Feb 3 (PTI): Security forces are planning joint operations with their Myanmarese counterparts against North-east militants hiding in the neighbouring country, a senior Army officer said here today.

Coordinated operations against militants was discussed by Union Home Secretary GK Pillai during a recent visit to Myanmar, the Army's GOC of 3 Corps, Lt Gen NK Singh said.

The matter was at the planning, discussion and intelligence-sharing stage as of now, he said.

"We inform Myanmarese authorities from time to time about locations of camps of militant groups on their side of the international boundary."

He said, there were about 40-45 camps of various sizes in Myanmar with some permanent in nature set up by at least 20 militant groups from Manipur, two factions of NSCN and ULFA.
