RPF’s quit notice

IMPHAL, MAR 6:
Proscribed outfit, Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) Saturday set a deadline for "non-Manipuris" to leave Manipur by May 31 2010 except for those who were in the state for educational related purposes for a temporary period. By "non-Manipuris" it meant all outsiders who came to Manipur after 1949.
In an e-mailed statement, the outfit's publicity secretary T. Leishemba said that entry of non-Manipuris into Manipur was prohibited considering their welfare. The outfit said that all outsiders in Manipur were "illegal" and their entry prohibited.
The RPF said it took the decision considering the "hatred" of "non-Manipuris" by the local people, coupled with activities of the government of India aimed at "capitalizing" such situation. The outfit said it would not be possible for "non-Manipuris" to live a secure and peaceful life in the state.
It further said that the government of Manipur was "unable" to prevent unwanted incidents and the RPF was not in any condition to help the non-Manipuris, even though they were friends of the party.
"With due regards and concern for your welfare, the RPF appeals to all non-Manipuri's to leave Manipur," the statement added.
The RPF said that starting from cobblers to bureaucrats, the outsiders penetrated into all available fields of occupation and gained control over the socio-economic and political life of Manipur causing widespread resentment, dissent and anguish among the indigenous people.(NP)
