Cyclonic storm causes widespread damages in NE

AIZAWL, MAR 31: Cyclonic storms accompanied by hailstorms which lashed various pockets across northeastern states in the past two-day's claimed one life while leaving many injured besides causing loss of property in Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram. As per the reports of the Deputy Commissioners of various districts in Mizoram, 220 houses have been

 completely damaged, 1073 houses have suffered serious damages, 1967 houses have been partially damaged and 48 other non-residential buildings suffered damages.
Besides the loss of property, in Serchhip district of Mizoram, Zalawma (65) lost his life while a minor sustained injury.
The numbers of houses damaged are expected to go up as reports from the remote parts of Mizoram are still awaited.
Earlier today, Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, making a special mention in the state assembly session said more than 2000 houses across Mizoram has been either partially or totally damaged. The chief minister said the government has taken all possible steps to distribute relief materials to the victims.
In Manipur state, over 400 houses have been reported damaged by hailstorms. The worst effected areas include Laphupat Tera, Khunou, Mayai Leikei and Khodak. Reports of destruction and damages of houses were also received from Churchandpur and Ukhrul districts. According to latest information, a Junior High School at Saipum under Churchandpur has been destroyed by heavy downpour.
Meanwhile, Anini, the headquarters of Dibang Valley district in Arunachal Pradesh, remained cut off from the rest of the country following heavy rains during the past few days that triggered massive landslides in several areas.
Official sources said five sick people reportedly lost their life as they could not be lifted to nearby hospitals because of road blockades at several locations.
The Bailey bridge at Amboli is reported to be damaged while several patches in Endulin, Ryanli, Hundli and Suklanagar along the Anini-Roing road have been washed out.
Many people remain stranded at Anini and several other block points, sources informed, adding, people are facing food crisis as essential commodities were out of the market and even the available items were being sold at high prices.
The heavy rains accompanied by hailstorms and strong wind has also rendered many areas incommunicado as many of the power lines and telecommunication systems were either uprooted or damaged by the storm and winds.
Two killed, over 600 houses damaged in Tripura
Two persons were killed while over 600 houses damaged and trees and electric posts uprooted in a severe storm in Tripura in last two days, police said here.
Thirteen-year-old Santanjoy Reang died last night when his house collapsed during the storm at Nandirampara, a remote tribal hamlet in Kanchanpur subdivision of North Tripura district, they said.
An ex-gratia of Rs one lakh has been given by the Tripura government to the next of kin of Santanjoy.
Another person Purnaram Reang (21) was killed and his wife Anjuti was seriously injured when lightning struck them at Paharpur, a remote tribal hamlet in South Tripura district on Monday. Anjuti was admitted to Amarpur sub-divisional hospital in critical condition, the police said.
The storm has razed at least 600 houses, besides uprooting around 300 electric posts and over 250 trees in the state due to strong wind and heavy rains which lashed the state.
However, the rain brought relief to the farmers as their croplands had dried up due to heat wave, sources in State Agriculture department said.
State government officials said that relief and rescue operation was on in the storm-hit areas.
