IMPHAL, JUN 2(EMN):
Manipur Tribal Development Minister DD Thaisii's private house in Senapati district headquarters was set on fire by some unknown miscreants last midnight.

The minister was in his official quarter in Imphal when the incident took place.
Senapati district police confirmed torching of the minister's newly constructed house at Senapati village located in the district headquarters, 60 kms north of Imphal.
"The incident took place last midnight at around 12.30 pm," a senior police officer told this correspondent over telephone.
However, there was no report of any casualty during the incident.
Sources from Senapati said some unknown miscreants turned up at around 12.30 pm and asked the occupants to vacate before throwing some inflammable substances inside the house.
Some relatives of the minister who were staying in the house were forced to come out before it was torched, sources said.
Last midnight's incident took place following reports of destruction of many houses belonging to candidates of the second phase autonomous district council (ADC) election which were held across three hill districts of the state Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul today.
No one has claimed responsibility for the incidents till date. Police are also yet to find any clue as to who torched these houses.

Low turnout in ADC polls
Polling in almost all the polling booths in the three hill districts of Tamenglong, Ukhrul and Senapati in the second phase of Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections today was reportedly poor due to bandhs called by various Naga bodies in the respective districts and non-arrival of polling personnel in booths.
36 candidates were declared elected uncontested in the 72 seats of ADCs in the three districts. Each ADC in the three districts has 24 seats
No candidate in six seats in Senapati district filed nomination papers.
Elections to the remaining 30 seats - 20 in Tamenglong district, four in Ukhrul and six in Senapati district – are yet to be held. Altogether 184 candidates are in the fray for these seats.
However, the district authorities are planning to hold re-polling in some polling booths. Sources from Ukhrul said polling in the district was nil. But repolling in Huishu under Chingai, Laihoaram and Etham under Kasom Khullen area is likely to be held.
In Senapati district too, limited number of voters cast their votes in a couple of booths, sources added.
Repolling is likely to be recommended in more than 40 polling booths out of 77 in Tamenglong district.

Firing in Ukhrul town
UKHRUL, JUN 2:  IRB personnel fired in the air to control the mob which took to the streets in Ukhrul town tonight to protest against the alleged highhandedness of security forces in the town. A number of people were reportedly injured in the melee.
Entire populace of Ukhrul town came out to protest against the arrest and alleged assault on some volunteers, who were enforcing the 72-hour bandh called by Tangkhul organizations, by the IRB personnel.
When the people came out in large number to vent their resentment over the alleged high-handedness of the security personnel, the IRB personnel resorted to blank fire.
Meanwhile, thousands of people were heading to the office of SP Ukhrul to voice their anger at the time filing of the report.
The Tangkhul organisations have called the bandh against the holding of elections to the autonomous district councils. (Newmai News Network)

Muivah to leave Viswema for Pfutsero

After a month-long stay at Viswema village near the Nagaland-Manipur border, NSCN-IM general secretary will head for Nagaland's Phek district bordering Ukhrul district of Manipur on Friday. In this connection, the Viswema public will organise a fare-well programme on Thursday at Viswema.
Reports said that Thuingaleng Muivah will be going to Pfutsero in Phek district. In that district Muivah will hold consultative meetings with the people. However, it is not clear when the NSCN-IM leader will enter Ukhrul district. Thuingaleng Muivah has been camping at Viswema village since the first week of May as the state government has been sternly barring him from entering Manipur.
Sources from the NSCN-IM said that Thuingaleng Muivah will definitely go to Ukhrul district. "We have been patiently waiting for the government of India to control the government of Manipur but how long can we wait? Our Ato Kilonser (Th Muivah) will go to his birth place in Ukhrul district at any cost. We will never retreat," affirmed an NSCN-IM leader tonight.
