Lamka, June 4(IFP): The Zomi Economic Planning and Development Agency, ZEPADA, has sent a representation to the chief minister of the state O Ibobi Singh requesting him to give top priority to deliver PDS items.
In the representation it informed him of the prevailing circumstances in which the common people bore the brunt of food-crisis like situation arising out of the economic blockade.
ZEPADA has said quoting some newspapers report that the FCI had given permission to the state for direct lifting of PDS items from Silchar FCI godown via Mizoram state acusing the minister(CAF&PD) in the meantime of attempting to transport via NH-53.
In the representation in another issue it welcomes the steps taken by the SF towards preservation of environment as well as the ban on transportation of timber enforced by the security forces in the tribal areas while adding a rider by stating that this has a negative impact on the livelihood of people depending on either firewood or charcoal for cooking purposes, which pointed to the necessity of including LPG gas as one of the items of imports.
It informed him of the possibility to lifting Churachandpur district PDS quota from Silchar FCI godown via Mizoram state through the Guite Road.
Requesting that minimum transport subsidy be extended by the government to lessen the public from bearing a heavy transsportation cost, it also urged the CM in favour of giving transport permit to the local transporters incase the authorised transporters are reluctant.
Stating steps may be taken for free LPG connection and distribution on a subsidised rate in the same vein with the PDS items to all BPL families, it said this type of arrangement may be replicated to the other district of the state.
