It is expected that the modifications in the funding pattern will encourage the North Eastern States for implementation of the NLRMP. This will lead to establishment of proper land records maintenance and registration systems in these remote and strategically located States, the Cabinet spokesperson said.
Earlier the Central share ranged from 25 per cent to 50 per cent for these components. The Cabinet decisions follows pleas by some of the North Eastern States and the North East MP's Forum for enhanced Central assistance. Original surveys have not been carried out in most of the North Eastern States.
During 2008-09 proposals received from 20 States for release of funds under the NLRMP were placed before the Project Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee and funds to the tune of Rs.255.73 crore were recommended by the Committee towards Central share for covering 69 districts, including 16 districts of the North Eastern States.(AT)
