Victorious Cong prepares to elect ADC chairmen and vices

IMPHAL, July 2(IFP): With the grand success of the Congress Party at the autonomous district council election, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has initiated the task of forming decentralized local administration of the hill districts of the state.

Contenders for the posts of chairman and deputy chairman of Tamenglong and Churachandpur autonomous district councils have been finalized by MPCC from amongst the elected Congress ADC members.

According to the officials of MPCC, G Somhem Haomei of 21-Nungnam DCC and Humaliabou of 3-Khunpung DCC have been chosen as the leader and deputy leader of Tamenglong ADC respectively, while V. Langkhanpau Guite of 10-Tuivai Area DCC and Demmang Haokip of 2-Leimatak DCC have also been appointed as the leader and deputy leader of Churachandpur ADC respectively.

Leaders and deputy leaders of the remaining ADCs will be chosen tomorrow, the MPCC official said.

It may be mentioned that the Congress Party had outdone all other parties in the ADC election by capturing 107 seats. The chairman and deputy chairman of all the five ADCs would obviously be from the majority Congress Party.

The Congress led SPF government has also taken great initiatives to ensure proper functioning of decentralized local government in the hill districts of the state.

It may be recalled that the ADC election was held after a long gap of 20 years in the state amidst stiff resistence from some Naga civil society bodies in demand for amendments in the current form of ADC Act.
