Ban on govt vehicles over Guite Road impasse

From Kaimuanthang Lamka, Jul 25: As part of their intensified agitation demanding the handing over of construction works for Guite Road to the BRO from the state government, the Zomi Students' Federation has from Monday imposed a ban on the movement of all government vehicles excepting those engaged in fire services, sanitation and for that matter sanitary trucks and medical services. The ZSF have till date imposed a boycott on the PWD department, banned all works undertaken by the department and snatched the keys of two JCBs engaged in taking up works along the Guite Road. The ZSF had also called a 24- hour bandh in Churachandpur district on July 20 during which they burned the effigies of the state chief minister O Ibobi Singh and works minister K Ranjit Singh. Speaking to the press later today, the ZSF president Kapkhanmuan said he was totally disappointed over the government failure to handover the road construction of Guite Road to the BRO in spite of the fact that it was approved earlier on September 2006 at a high power meeting with the chief minister in the chair. He said though the BRO officials had given their approval for take over of the works the manner in which the state government responded would never be acceptable to one and all. Calling all concerned to extend all the necessary support for the sake of development through road connectivity he warned everyone, particularly officials, not to violate the boycott call.(IFP)
