Pay strike suspended, employees to resume duties

IMPHAL, May 14(IFP): The state government has got some reprive on the issue of pay strike as employees apex body of the state secretariat has called off the current strike temporarily and the employees are set to resume duties with effect from May 15.

The development comes amidst the tense situation in the state resulting out of NSCN(IM) general secretary Th Muivah's intended visit to Manipur which by and large intensified indefinite economic blockade called along national highways by Naga civil society bodies against ADC election.

The Manipur Secretariat Services Association, in a statement signed by its president N Lenindra today announced that the cease work strike called by the secretriat employees has been temporarilly suspended in view of the crutial situation the state has been facing currently.

The MSSA statement said, the decision to suspend the strike temporarilly was taken after a meeting with the chief minister at the later's office premise today which discuss in depth about the existing crisis being faced by the state.

The MSSA and MSDA also appeal all the employees of the state secretariat to resume normal duties with effect from May 15.

In another statement issued by the secretary to the chief minister, most of the offices in the state secretariat recorded partial attendence today in response to the appeal of the chief minister.

It said the attitude of some government employees in placing their personal interest above the interest of the state has been viewed seriously by the government and set to take appropriate action after watching attendance of government offices on May 15. All the administrative secretaries and heads of departments had been directed to furnish attendence report after which necessary actions are to be initiated, the statement said.

A meeting of the Committee of Officers was held today in which first phase of contractual engagement of 67 assistants, 19 drivers and about 30 Grade IV was approved for recommendation to the Cabinet to be held on May 15 which will consider the proposal for immediate recruitment on contract basis and for positioning them at different offices.

The minimum requirement of contractual assistants, Gr. IV and drivers has been sought from all heads of department by May 15 and these staff will be posted against the absenting staff, who will be placed under suspension to be followed by disciplinary proceedings.

In the meantime, the state department of personnel & administrative reforms has asked to all the administrative secretaries and head of departments to furnish report about attendance of staffs.

The attendance report should be submitted by 4pm to the commissioner (DP), the government order said and directed all concerned officers to personally made inspection.
