Maoists disclaim ultimatum to Manipuris

Source: The Sangai Express
Imphal, April 30 2010: The CPI (Maoist) has refuted issuing any statement which asked all Manipuris and other North East people staying in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Jharkhand to leave the four States by June 30 .

Reacting to a press statement issued by one Sher Khan of CPI (Maoist) Tirhut Sub-Zonal Committee and published in the Hindustan Times on April 21, which served an ultimatum to the Manipuris as well as people of other North East States staying in Bihar, UP, West Bengal and Jharkhand, the outfit clarified that it neither issued the statement nor the statement reflected the views of the outfit.

A statement issued by the outfit's Bihar-Jharkhand-North Chhattishgarh Special Area Committee spokesperson Gopal expressed strong suspicion that the statement was a handiwork of the intelligence agencies of the Government of India aimed at creating confusion and distrust among the people of Manipur as well as India and to slander the image of CPI (Maoist).

Clarifying its position on the development, which the Government of Manipur allegedly capitalised to fulfil its nefarious design, the CPI (Maoist) declared that it supports the movement of the Manipuri people for independence.

"It is a just movement and the people of Manipur are making great sacrifices to achieve it.

We respect it.

We support the movements of various nationalities of India for self-determination/independence", the CPI (Maoist) stated.

Many people of India have gone to the North Eastern States of India in search of jobs.

Majority of them were brought to Assam and other NE States during the British period itself to work in the tea gardens.

In the post-1947 India, unemployment has reached an alarming height because of the anti-people policies of the Indian ruling classes.

Uneven development is the feature of India, the outfit remarked.

People are forced to leave their States in search of jobs.

The recent proimperialist policies of globalization, liberalization and privatization, pursued madly by the ruling classes of India, have made the situation worse.

The recent spurt in the migration of the labour class owes much to this policy, it asserted.

Similarly, subjugation of the North Eastern States by the Indian ruling classes has kept them backward in all aspects of development.

There is a dearth of good educational facilities almost everywhere in these States.

As a result many students from Manipur and other North Eastern States come to the States of Bihar, UP, West Bengal etc.

for higher studies.

Some of them have come in search of jobs also.

"We see nothing wrong in the mobility of the toiling masses in search of jobs etc.

It is the Indian ruling classes and the anti-people policies of its various Govts which are responsible for the pathetic condition of the people of India as well as Manipur", the CPI (Maoist) alleged.

This situation has necessitated closer co-operation of the movements of the people of India and Manipur, it observed.

Noting that the Chief Minister was quick to capitalise on the tense atmosphere created by the press statements of the RPF and some Sher Khan who claimed to be a sub-zonal member of the CPI (Maoist), it alleged that CM O Ibobi is a person responsible for implementation of the antipeople policies of the Indian ruling classes in Manipur.

Th CPI (Maoist) also exhorted the people to be beware of his cunning methods and expose his true character.

"We call upon the people of Manipur and India to channelize their wrath against the common enemy-the Indian ruling classes.

People must not be deluded by the 'divide and rule' policy of the ruling classes and must unite against the comprador big bourgeois, landlord classes of this country who are perpetuating this unjust rule under the guidance of imperialism, in particular US imperialism", the CPI (Maoist) called out in their press statement.

Stating that only a united struggle can solve the problems of India and other various nationalities, the outfit appealed to the Manipuri people that there is no need to be panicked by the fake statement issued in the name of CPI (Maoist) by one Sher Khan.
